WBCS – SELECTION PROCESS

Candidates should be selected in three-round to attain the job in WBCS.

Firstly candidates should be given the preliminary test in which they have to be qualified with minimum cut-off marks when candidates qualified the pre-exam then they call for the mains exam after that candidate who clears the Online Written Examination with the qualifying marks are called for the Interview.

Everyone has to compulsorily participate in every round and should get a good score to be promoted to the next round.

WBCS SYLLABUS – EXAM PATTERN

  1. Prelims consists of one paper only i.e., General Studies.
  2. The WBCS Mains Exam has six compulsory papers and one optional subject which comprises two papers to be attempted by the candidates.
  3. The WBCS Prelims is of  200 marks while the WBCS Mains is of 200 marks each for all the papers.
  4. Optional Subjects are taken by candidates who opt for “Group A and Group B Services”.

Personality Test

  • Candidates should be selected in order of merit on the results of the Main Exam for all the services and posts included in Groups A, B, C and D shall have to appear at a Personality Test.
  • Each candidate will be asked questions on matters of general interest.
  • The objective of the test will be to assess the candidate’s personal qualities e.g., alertness of mind, power of clear and logical exposition, intellectual and moral integrity, leadership, and also the candidate’s range of interests.

Note: No separate Personality Tests will be held for different groups viz. Group-‘A’, Group-‘B’, Group-‘C’, and Group-‘D’ in respect of a candidate. Marks will be awarded according to different services against allotted full marks for Personality Test.
