MPSC State Service Exam – Selection Process

Candidates should be selected in three round to attain the job in MPSC Exam.

Firstly candidates should be given the preliminary test in which they have to be qualified with minimum cut-off marks, when candidates qualified the pre exam then they call for mains exam, after that candidates who clear the Online Written Examination with the qualifying marks are called for the Interview.

Everyone has to compulsorily participate in every round and should get a good score to be promoted to the next round.

MPSC State Service Exam – Exam Pattern

For Prelims Examination

The MPSC state services exam is conducted in three stages:

  1. Prelims Exam
  2. Mains Exam
  3. Interview Round

Candidates have to qualify in each of the three tests by securing cut-off marks to be decided by MPSC. Adequate number of candidates in each category as decided by MPSC depending upon requirements will be shortlisted for Online Main examination.

Points to Remember

  1. Marks of both papers will be considered for qualifying candidates for the mains exam.
  2. There is a negative marking of 1/3rd for every incorrect answer in Paper I and Paper II.
  3. The questions on decision making in Paper II has no negative marks if incorrectly answered.
  4. Candidates need to score minimum marks as decided by the commission to qualify for the mains exam.
  5. All the questions are set in English and Marathi except for those questions which are meant to test the candidate’s knowledge of English.

For Mains Examination

The MPSC Mains Exam comprises of six compulsory papers. Paper I and Paper II are language papers. Paper III to Paper VI are General Studies Papers. MPSC Exam does not comprise of any optional paper through a change made in 2012.

Points to Remember

  1. There is a negative marking in the objective question papers.
  2. Candidates need to attempt all the papers to qualify for the Interview round.

  2. History of India (with special reference to Maharashtra) and Indian National Movement.
  3. Maharashtra, India and world geography – Physical, Social, Economic geography of Maharashtra, India and the World.
  4. Maharashtra and India – Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Urban Governance, Public Policy, Rights Issue, etc.
  5. Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
  6. General issues on Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialization.
  7. General Science

Paper – II

  1. Comprehension
  2. Interpersonal skills including communication skills
  3. Logical reasoning and analytical ability
  4. Decision-making and problem-solving
  5. General mental ability
  6. Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data Interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency, etc. – Class X level)
  7. Marathi and English language comprehension skills (Class X/XII level) Questions relating to this will be tested through passages from Marathi and English language without providing cross translation thereof in the question paper.
